Can You Laugh At Yourself?

I say all the time that I learn from my friends. One of them makes me laugh so quickly and easily. She also has the ability and willingness to laugh at  herself. She celebrates her birthday today. Some may say that having a birthday on New Year’s Eve would be awesome, that there is always a birthday party for you. I’m guessing Ms Karin would say that the partyers sometime forget to even say Happy Birthday! I’m hoping she will appreciate my little “happy birthday” post!

I was reminded of one of her antics recently when I was at the gym this week. I was in a “Fitness Pilates” class, and it was kicking my butt. All of a sudden, all that core work started doing a number on my insides. The class was almost over, and I realized that I needed to make a hasty exit. I quickly tidied my area and headed to the ladies room. All good,  no embarrassing sounds or smells for the group fitness girls to enjoy!

Many years ago, many Hippie Chicks had joined the local YMCA and  we met to work out there together. One day, a few of them were in a Yoga class when one of my GFs, had an unfortunate thing happen. With all that relaxation and movement of core muscles and legs, she experienced a “vaginal fart”. She even named it a “queef”. She may or may not have coined this term , but it makes the story even funnier. Many people, like myself would have just been embarrassed. Not this fantastically funny girl. She told ALOT of people! She laughed at herself. So, an event that would have gone the way of most embarrassing moments, has taken on a life of it’s own.

I think the ability to laugh at yourself is really important. When you start to take yourself too seriously, you just start to act old. Thank you Ms Karin for never acting old! Karin has made me laugh so many times over the many years that I have been blessed enough to call her a friend. She has also taught me that sometimes, you just gotta laugh at your self!

I couldn’t possibly close this post without mentioning your beautifully giving heart. Thank you for your endless craft sessions with our kids, Sunday school classes, Girl Scout troops and most recently  an evening at the Drake House. Thank you for your gift of hospitality that you share so freely. Thank you for your many talents and for all the laughs! Love you!
